A sterling silver casting of a pine cone scale.
Found fallen beneath a pine tree, this small cone scale once formed part of the protective structure surrounding the tree's seeds. I was drawn to its unexpected form - the ridges, textures and distinctive pointed tip (the umbo), and the thought that something so beautifully sculptural exists simply to hold and protect what is still growing.
When the pine cone opens and releases its seeds, the scales fall to the forest floor, where they slowly return to the earth. This piece preserves one of those small fragments in sterling silver, carrying a little of that story with it.
Cast in solid sterling silver, the natural form becomes something lasting and tactile. A little piece of the woodland to carry with you, inspired by the quiet beauty of things often overlooked beneath our feet.
