Making Winter

Making Winter

Winter has always been one of my favourite seasons to create in. After the madness of the festive season, when things turn quiet, I reach for wintery blues, snowy scenes and icicles, creating without pressure and seeing where my fingers take me.

The main inspiration for this year's Winter Collection has been taken from my local birch trees and the joy of finding mushrooms nestled in the undergrowth. I have recreated birch bark texture in silver by using melting and fusing techniques, requiring careful torch control. This means no two are ever alike, creating a truly one of a kind piece. I must admit, these are some of my favourite rings to date.

Another big part of my business is photography. I love taking photos, especially in nature and of my dogs Willow and Ember. When photographing a collection, I try to capture it's inspiration alongside the pieces I make. As I wandered through the forest, camera and Winter Collection in tow, I stopped in my tracks. There is something really special about dappled forest light, especially in Winter. The way the shadows and light dance around each other. No matter what state of mind I'm in, I stop to take it in and take a few deep breaths. In, out, in, out, in, out. As a dear friend used to say, 'take it to the woods'. 🌲

Two of my favourite pieces in this collection, are the Winter Leaves earrings. Icy rutilated Quartz and swinging winter leaves that tickle the base of your neck. I wear dangly earrings every day and know how important it is that they aren't too heavy, but also catch someone's eye. I always know when I have achieved what I set out to, when I consider keeping a pair for myself!

This collection feels special. I hope you like it too. I have been meaning to start a blog for some time now - 2025 feels like the right time to begin.

If there is anything you would like to see from or ask me, please pop a comment below. If there are any pieces you want me to make, stones you'd like to see, I'd love to know.

Until next time. ✨️
